Tastes like What?

I was reading an article in the The Atlantic by Wayne Curtis titled "Cocktails of the Past"

The article spoke about how some of the mixers that were once used in drinks of the past, like The Doctor or the Diki Diki were, until recently no longer available or very hard to get . He reports that a company seeking and importing these hard to get mixers, liquors and in some cases contracting with companies to make some of these rare spirits.

It was all quite interesting until he started to tell us how these things taste and that's where he lost me.

When he described a liquor as being pine flavored, I couldn't really picture it but I was at least left with some idea of what it might taste like. Having never drank the floor cleaner Pine Sol or tasted pine scented air freshener , I am pretty sure I would stay away from that one.

It was when he got to Batavia Arrack that he lost me completely. I mean I finished the article but the description of a liquor that is "pleasantly musty" kinda leaves me wondering. How is musty, pleasant?? He went on to further describe it as "Aromatic with a roguish sensibility," err ah what? I'm thinking why doesn't he just come out and say it's a cross between a peach an watermelon or kumquat?

Aromatic with a roguish sensibility? You might as well say it has a fragrance with a mischievous refinement for all that tells me what it tastes like!!

Very Busy But like Arnold says....

I'LL BE BACK !!!

Birds, Fish, Hamburgers and Beer

BIRDS, FISH, HAMBURGERS AND BEER.....all a part of this, the first post in 10 days!!

Hope you all had a nice weekend !!

BIRDS:

Birds, I like em alright, thing is lately I have had a bit of trouble getting a good night's sleep. It seems like I always wake up around 2:30 am and look at my bedside clock. I lay back down and drift off to sleep again and then the cute little birdies that live right outside my window seem to always start their crazy tweetfest at about 4:30 am. By 5 am I have become frustrated because the damn things just don't stop !! So the other day I started my Psychological Terror Campaign.

Actually what I did was make up some hard boiled eggs the night before, and when the little buggers started squawking outside my window, I went outside and just started cracking open the eggs and eating them in plain sight, oh and I looked right at those crazy noise polluters with an evil sneer....

I'm telling you it worked !! I slept till 8:30 this morning and never heard on chirp !!

Best thing about this little saga is that no one in the neighborhood saw me in the yard at 5 am eating hard boiled eggs and smiling demonically at sparrows...If they had, I would probably be in a padded room at a nearby mental institution, but it was worth the risk. I'll bet that padded room is nice and quiet !!

Pet Fish

The New Tank

My sister bought a new fish tank and I put that little video together so everyone could enjoy it...

I personally would never go get a fish tank, all the water tests and the feedings...I just couldn't be bothered...

If I ever do get the hankering for my own tank...I'll just watch the video over and over till I get the thought of having my own out of my system...

HAMBURGERS

I love hamburgers and this weekend I invited a bunch of friends and family for a cookout and cooked sausages, chicken, and yes I shot a glance at any birds that may have been nearby as I threw the chicken on the grill, hot dogs and HAMBURGERS.

My newest creation, which was inspired by an idea from my nephew, The Stuffed Burger:

Two thin patties are made, then you place sauteed onion, mushroom and cheese on one patty, then cover it with another patty pressing the edges together to form the new and improved Stuffed Burger!!

Brilliant ! A Burger with a surprise in the middle...I'm going to try other additives in the future, pickles, tomato, all sorts of things spring to mind when I think of the possibilities...

BEER:

We had a lot of beer here and you know what???

Beer goes great with burgers!!

Perfect Day for Potato Rolls

Glad it's not a "Perfect Day for Bananafish", if you have read any JD Salinger, well, you know how that ends !!

I was going to make Hamburgers and get ready for the 3 Boston teams to play. The Boston Bruins head into a deciding game 7. The Boston Celtics are playing game 6 in Orlando. The Celtics lead that best of seven series 3 games to 2. The Red Sox are playing the Anaheim Angels and are in the top of the 8th down 4-3...Lugo just got his 3rd hit of the day and while they aren't in the playoffs yet....it's still nice to see them win so I'm gonna get back to that game..

Since Mom has invited me over for her Vegetable Soup and home made Potato Rolls, I'll catch the rest of the Sox game there....

I couldn't turn down the opportunity to melt some butter on those rolls and devour a few.

The extra bonus is that I don't have to cook!!

It's a rather cool, breezy, cloud covered day so hot soup and warm buttery rolls are perfect!

Now lets all hope for 3 WINS, Go Boston !

To Perm or not to Perm ??

My youngest son (18) complained to me the other day that his thin brown hair was a pain in the neck. I know what he means, I mean I could never really get the look I wanted with my hair when I was younger. This light brown hair of mine just sat there flat on my head and was really better to keep it short than to try and get any of the latest styles...

Then he mentioned that he might consider getting a perm...!!

Oh, I so remember thinking that myself and I told him so. I explained that I actually did that back in the 80's and it was a big mistake...told him I'd send him a picture so he could see for himself what a BAD idea it was..

The Picture circa 1981

I added in my email that not only was the Perm a bad idea, but that he should probably try and avoid getting Rainbow suspenders and big ass glasses too !!

He's handsome as he is..

But I guess all Dads would say that huh??
