Three of the Best !!

Of course they are the best...they let me continue living!!

My 3 , how do I say this right, OLDER, sisters didn't kill me when I was their spoiled rotten bratty little brother. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be celebrating a New Year, they catch me when I fall and they ridicule me when necessary...I have continued to have a knack for annoying them without even trying...even the "Easy Going One"...she knows who she is!!

Bottom line a brat like me could never ask for any better sisters in the world!!

Thanks !! and HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!

This Saturday Night

Patriots To Go For Record In First 3-Network Simulcast In NFL History !!

Spreading the Christmas Cheer flickr joeshlobotnik

It's great to be a fan here in Beantown!! The Red Sox have already taken the World Series, The Celtics have the best record in the NBA and well then there's the New England Patriots! 15 Wins and NO Losses scheduled to play on Saturday Night for a record no one thought would ever be on the line...

So, while there isn't much to complain about as far as Football is concerned here in New England, there is one aspect of the game that isn't really being given any credit..

The Cheerleaders
flickr : Pkeleher

Their job is to Support, Inspire and Enthuse both the Team and of course the Fans. Unfortunately it seems that the Networks like to run ads and promotions across the TV Screen during the games and we never really get to see all the hard work those girls do..!!

She's Inspiring ME!! flickr RTenaglia

It's Horrible, in a study conducted by the, National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research, of 104 catastrophic injuries sustained by female high school and college athletes from 1982 to 2005 — head and spinal trauma that occasionally led to death — more than half resulted from cheerleading. (NY Times)

It's dangerous out there!!

There are Cameras out on the field

Those Cheerleaders are cute and they work hard..let's see a little coverage of their efforts to Support, Inspire and Enthuse the awesome New England Patriots Team and their quest toward a Perfect Season

Frankly I'm tired of all those truck commercials!

Celebrity Photos

"The Tom", on his way to a chic Euro Party

I received an email from "Hollywood", he's left a few comments here in the past and he sent me a "Celebrity" photo of Jessica Simpson asking me why I don't post pictures of her and other celebs on my blog...I have to say "Hollywood" that I don't need those Celebrity Photos when I have pictures of "The Tom" , "Minnie" the family dog and of course his legendary sisters to post on the blog.. Believe me when I tell you, you don't see these pictures anywhere else.

I particularly like the hat "The Tom" is wearing in the picture above. This is another photo from his days in Germany.

While it is still possible to see some other Celebrity photos here; I did post some pictures of Halle Berry but that was because she happened to be "The Tom's" Celebrity Match

If you have the need for Celebrity Photos, my friend Razz has that covered over at My Life and Everything Else...you can see a picture of skinny Tara Reid there now...she's looking a little emaciated, she's probably despondent over the fact that she and Tom Brady just didn't make it as a couple.

Right now though the Hideaway team is just happy to have "The Tom" as their Celebrity, we will be seeing many more pictures of him as we approach the New Year.

A Short Story

I rear-ended a car this morning !!

There I was alongside the road, the car I hit pulled over just ahead of me when slowly the driver opens his door and gets out of the car . . . and you know how you just get sooo stressed sometimes life just seems to get funny?

Well, I could NOT believe it . . the guy was a DWARF! He stormed over to my car, looks up at me and says, "I AM NOT HAPPY!"...

I laughed out loud and looked down at him and said , "Well, which one are you then?"... and THAT'S when the fight started . .

Those Dwarfs are pretty tough....

How To Impress A Girl

Just blow in her face!! Now I'll have to go out and try it.....I just don't know if I should buy any Tipalets I did quit smoking after all....

The following 90 second video ad is another refreshing way one might impress a woman..

That's my view on Diamonds for sure...What Pierce got was worth a whole lot more to me than what he paid with!!

Maybe I should change my name from Tom, a rather common name, to something like "Slade" or "Lance" ??

Well I'm off to think about this for awhile, currently I like the Beer idea best....maybe I'll buy some beer and invite someone over to watch the Football game this weekend...That'll Impress em for sure>

Who dresses like this??

When I saw this ad in the Dec 3rd edition of Sports Illustrated , I laughed. Believe me unless the guy in the ad is looking in a mirror and laughing at that stupid scarf then, let just say I'm laughing at him, not with him.

What scares me is that ad didn't just come out of nowhere. I mean they ("Docker/Levi Strauss") must have done some research. It means their are actually people, "men" dressing like this.

He probably has a bunch of buddies that tie their sweaters around their necks and hang out at the country club...

The sweater, the pants yes....The SCARF..wow, that's just wrong. I don't even know why it's wrong but if I met someone like this I am sure I would make a comment. I wouldn't be able to control myself.

If you get me in the Christmas Grab: DON"T BUY ME A SCARF!!

To continue in English Press 1

We've all heard those annoying little computerized voices that give us menu options over the phone,

Like,

For Service, press 1

For Sales, press 2

For someone who really cares , hang up and look in a mirror!

Well you don't get that one too often...On a couple occasions I've made it to the last choice and I am waiting for someone top pick up and then I get disconnected..

No buttons on these phones.. photo by Cursief Huigjeese

I learned a way of coping with those long waits in telephone hell. I use the speakerphone and go on doing something else and when I hear someone actually answer, I pick the phone back up.

But something else has come to my attention, something I just don't get. I called COMCAST Information on my phone the other day and was greeted in English by a perky feminine computer generated voice:

"Welcome to Comcast Directory Assistance , For English press 1 - or stay on the line."

Then a more sultry feminine computer generated voice tells you to press 2 for Spanish

What if I was from Tanzania and I only spoke Swahili ??? Why don't I get a choice??

Why didn't we get the Sultry voice in English and give the Spanish the Perky voice??

Since I am from the United States and was brought up speaking ENGLISH...How come I have to hear this, to continue in English message??

OF Course I want to continue in English that's what we speak in this country !!!

You speeeka de enlgeeesh??? Well you don't want to go to your local unemployment office or seek out any government assistance because you will spend most of the day trying to find the forms that are written in ENGLISH.

What is it with this country that we cannot say, look we speak English here and we welcome anyone from anywhere but in order to fit in to our society it would be easier if you learn ENGLISH.

Instead we print every public document in 6 languages and guess who pays for that translation service???

There is actually a movement in this country to teach Spanish kids in Spanish rather than teaching them English.....

When I was in Mexico, no one tried to make it easy for me to communicate...everything was in Spanish...and that's good, cause they speak Spanish in Mexico and I knew that when I went there.

Guess what, French is spoken fairly regularly in Quebec, Canada.

Personally I think it should be mandatory to only "speak" in "Sign Language"...at least it would be a little quieter!!

Local Boy Scouts Accused of Being Too 'Pro-War'

My Son, albeit FOX NEWS got his last name wrong !! O'Connor NOT O'Connell !!

Patrick and his troop were collecting donations to send care packages to the troops in Iraq. Whether you are for or against the War, the troops are made up of our son's and daughters our fathers and mother and our friends. Those people are there because it is their job to be there. Whether we agree with the policies of our government is not the point, here we are heading toward the holiday season and these troops are in harms way and far from their families and some woman named..MARSHA WEINERMAN, from the "Republic of Cambridge" decides that the collections are not appropriate and kicks the Boy Scouts out !! She said the donation boxes were not approved...

Hhmm What's This Marsha?? !!

That was an announcement from the City Of Cambridge Website

Looks like someone approved it!!

I took a screen shot just in case it mysteriously disappears.

Patrick with his Grandfather, a Vietnam Vet, Me to his right and my Granddaughter Raine whose dad was wounded by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq!

We will all be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas but many families will not!

Are You Smart Enough To Read This??

As I mentioned in my last post, If you have a blog, read blogs or just happen to be tall...then you are smarter than the average person. That's based on a little science and a large amount of speculation. Certainly anyone who commented on the last post, ROSIES comment where she seemed offended that I might have said unkind things about "Pay Per Post and Pop Up Ad filled blogs...She Said

"What we bloggers who get paid per post don't have is an overwhelming need for therapy. We neither tell the world all about our last shrink visit nor waste any one's life"

Well Rosies, I looked at your blog and now I know you are scared of suffocation, cancer and overdraft fees. I see that your friends, husband and Robin Williams make you laugh, you like chocolate and you Hate overdraft fees..

Hhhmm, Overdraft fees mentioned twice already?? How are those Pay Per Posts working for you?

Anyway, unless your comments are totally rude I will post them all and I thank Rosie for stopping by...Anyone interested in learning more about Rosies can click her link here: Testimonials By Rosie

So back to the title, Are you smart enough to read this?? I stumbled upon an IQ test the other day and discovered I was not a genius...but I'm close and I think I get smarter with every post I write. Here is your chance to take the test!! IQ TEST

You only get 20 minutes and there are 33 questions, GOOD LUCK and let me know how you did. My results are above

Bloggers and Tall People are Smarter

I read an article the other day which stated:

" While researchers have long shown that tall people earn more than their shorter counterparts, it's not only social discrimination that accounts for this inequality -- tall people are just smarter than their height-challenged peers, a new study finds." Reuters/AOL online

Being 6' 2" tall and having a high opinion of myself leads me to believe that this study is very accurate!!!

What I'd like to see is a study of bloggers and their intelligence level. I am sure all those bloggers that have their pages filled with ads, pop-ups and pay per posts are not the brightest bloggers out there. They are here to try and make money and still haven't caught on that there are millions of others trying to do the same thing.

I believe we would find out most of these bloggers are short and just one step away from becoming spammers!!

Everyone knows that spammers are one of the lowest forms of life!

I digress, only because I've been getting so much spam lately!!

I think if you have a Blog, you are smarter than the average person. Okay I said it.

I think if a short person has a blog their intelligence level is higher than a tall person without a blog.

But really, who cares what I think?? Understanding the fact that few people do care what I think about, makes me smarter than people who think that I think what they think is something I care to think about!!

Here is your chance !!

What do you Think???

Are bloggers smarter than Non-Bloggers?

If you read Blogs and comment on them, does this make you a pseudo-blogger??

Are you a Tall Blogger or a Short Blogger??

Being a blogger, do you feel hostile towards non-bloggers?

Anyone out there interested in a 6'2" blue-eyed blogger with a high opinion of himself ??

What to say

It has been difficult lately to come up with a post. I guess getting all wrapped up in the Red Sox made it easy to at least post something, but save an occasional shout out to my favorite sports teams this blog hasn't been about sports it has been an attempt at trying to expose the humorous side of an everyday life.

So I had a brilliant idea today, I've gone ahead and posted those old posts of mine and thought I'd ask you which ones you all thought were funny or entertaining.

That is if you have a couple minutes to spare before you go shopping on Ebay or washing the kitchen floor..

Profile Change

For everyone used to seeing the bunny in my Profile view there has been a change. Because the Boston Red Sox won the World series, our family dog Minnie has asked that she take the place of Harry Bunny, who has done everything asked of him, at least temporarily.

Harry was a little upset, but has agreed to step down for a little while. I've asked him to continue to work with the Hideaway team in other capacities and explained to him that like baseball, there is no I in Team. That's a lesson Alex Roidriguez should learn..

A Quote for the times from Phyllis Diller

"If it weren't for baseball, many kids wouldn't know what a millionaire looked like."

Finally, the Boston Red Sox celebrate with their fans here in Boston today, so I won't be talking so much baseball in the future....but there is always New England Patriot Football

and those Crazy Massachusetts Drivers to blog about!!

Red Sox Win the World Series

Minnie didn't couldn't take her eyes off the game last nigh as she watched the Red Sox win their 2nd World Series in 4 years.

She munched on some green peas and had a little milk during the game but there wasn't a repeat of the crazy party she had the other night.

She hopes to go to the celebratory parade this week.

Congrats Red SoX !!!

What a great catch by the Rookie Ellsbury in the bottom of the ninth!!

MVP Mike Lowell!! Hope we can keep him on the Sox!!

Red Sox Nation let Ownership know that T=there is no place for A-ROD with the Red Sox. Salaries are already too high and as costs go up they are dropped on the fans..

We Don't need no stinkin A-Rod, he's a high priced, self centered player. No player is worth that kind of money

It sucks being from Philly today

According to a survey of some 60 thousand participants who were surveyed Philadelphia is home to the least attractive people..Sorry Rocky, Sorry Adrienne..

The survey was done jointly by
CNN Headline News and Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Philadelphia also found the:

Least Stylish
Least Worldly
Least Active
One of the Least Friendly

Like I said it sucks to be from Philly today, but in their defense I wonder how many of those surveyed have visited the back woods of West Virginia...I can hear the banjos now

On the other hand I'm from the Boston area, actually lived in the city for 15 years and they say
Boston is...

The #2 Sports Fans Destination...Chicago was number 1...What's that all about??? I guess some people just don't like winners!!
Philly was # 3!!

We came in as # 5 Sophisticated getaway, again CHICAGO came out ahead of us in that category...and New York was #1, come ON New York???

Out of 25, Boston was rated 21st, in the friendly department !! Bastards!! Philly AND Chicago did better than us!!

Finally, Boston was rated 3rd in Intelligence...Only Minneapolis and Seattle scored higher... Chicago and New York scored MUCH LOWER...

Of course, had any of those surveyed met me or my Hideaway Team I think that Boston would have been #1 across the board.

Obviously!!

It Mikes Fault !!!

I'm a big believer in Karma and last night we had a little party around watching the baseball game, unfortunately, Mike, was a little negative about some of the Red Sox players and I believe his negativity transferred on to the players....

It's either Criminal or I have gone completely bonkers.

It could be both.

Mr Negativity himself..

we call him Mike

I've called the Karma Police and hopefully he will be taken in and have his Chakras aligned...It's playoff time and there's no room for Negativity.

Sexiest Fan Alive

With regard to my last post about all the spitting and scratching in Baseball, one of my commentors, Avery Gray, said:

"Most people who watch baseball are of the male persuasion, and since men are generally not offended by such behavior, I don't think it will be changing anytime soon. "

Tomorrow October 12, 2007 the voting begins for MLB's Sexiest Fan, will it be a man, a woman or will there be one of each??

Major League Baseball and People Magazine are sponsoring this and I think it is MLB who is trying to expand it's fan base and attract more women to the games and the sport.

In my reply to Avery's comment, I took some information from and article reprinted from the Boston Globe Magazine here at boston.com, which stated that :

"Sports teams are particularly interested in women fans because they shop. Sales of Patriots merchandise targeted at females -- everything from tank tops to ``ladies hand-off thong" underwear plastered with the team's logo -- have quadrupled over the past several years, and now bring in about $3 million annually."

So I realize that many of my recent posts have been sports related, but hey...The Red Sox are in the playoffs!! While looking for sexy fans will MLB start asking their players to clean up there manners and stop the spitting ??

I doubt it.....Avery is probably right...be sure to vote for your sexiest fan, if Avery is right, it should be a Woman, since mostly men are watching the game they will have most of the votes!

Red Sox , China's Solution, spitting and other fithy habits

The Boston Red Sox swept the California Angels 3 games to 0......Yes, Manny Ramirez was a big part of it, but our pitching has been great too..Now Red Sox fans will wait for Cleveland to finish off the Yankees and start playing the American League Championship Series this Friday.

The game over the weekend when the bugs attacked the Yankees was awesome

Also, not that I want you all to think I am a sports fanatic...it was great to see the New England Patriots beat the Cleveland Browns football team....

Next Topic..

NY Times Story: No Spitting On the Road to the Olympic Glory

You can follow the link for the whole story but to summarize, I guess spitting is a fairly common thing in China and many officials there are trying to put an end to public spitting so as not to look uncivilized to the many foreign visitors they expect being the hosts to the 2008 Summer Olympics.

from the article...

" ..some Communist Party officials have publicly fretted that Beijing may not measure up. One delegate at the country’s annual political meetings in March recommended heavy fines and a public education campaign to curb spitting, cutting ahead in line, smoking and foul language."

Public awareness of manners needs to be improved,” said Wang Tao, the soft-spoken, exceedingly polite civil servant who has become a local celebrity for his efforts to curb public spitting.

"Beijing had already announced that people caught spitting in public before the Olympics could face fines up to 50 yuan, or about $6.50, hardly small change in China. Mr. Wang, the anti-spitting activist, said the Olympic spirit inspired him to begin his campaign. “I felt I must do something to contribute,” he said."

No more article excerpts...

I like the initiative, public spitting is a filthy habit. But I believe Baseball is part of the Summer Olympics....Every time I watch a baseball game I see many of the players spitting regularly all over the place. It seems every time they come in close on a player in the batters box or on base, he spits something or scratches his balls..

BBCnews ring

What's up with that?

What will the Chinese do about it?

I have to tell you $6.50 may be a lot in China but the Red Sox signed rookie pitcher
Daisuke Matsuzaka to a contract for over $50 Million Dollars, he could spit every day all day for a long long time before it really started to cause him any problems.

It is a disgusting habit, I don't enjoy watching these guys spit and wonder why baseball hasn't tried to set a better example to others, especially young kids who look up to players as role models.

And what about the ball scratching?...Will the Chinese take that issue on as well?

Which one bothers you more public spitting or ball scratching??

Manny, Manny, MANNY

Manny Ramirez

Everyone has their favorites, some like Varitek others Papelbon but I think Manny Ramirez is MONEY...Tonight, or should I say early Saturday morning, he proved it by hitting a ball out of Fenway Park and over everything ...Just Manny being Manny he raised his arms in the air and watched the ball leave the park.

Red Sox take two from the Angels, and the Yankees lost again...Life is almost perfect......

Go SOX

The Boston Red Sox vs The Angels

The game will be played in Historic Fenway Park...Here are some pictures my friend Jim took when we were attending a game this year in Boston

Our Seats

That's Wally the Green Monster

Our View of the Game...

I snapped the one below of Fenway Park from the top of the Prudential Building..A.K.A. "The Top Of The Hub"

The Hub is how some citizens of Boston refer to their fair city. The roots of the term Hub started with Oliver Wendell Holmes. He coined the term Hub when he wrote in
Autocrat of the Breakfast Table
that the ...

"Boston
State-House is the hub of the solar system."

In 1868, Rev. Foster B Zinke in his book Last Winter In The United States wrote,

"
Massachusetts has been the wheel within New England, and Boston the wheel within Massachusetts. Boston therefore is often called the "hub of the world," since it has been the source and fountain of the ideas that have reared and made America."

Some people outside of Boston think we are a little "Self Centered" Actually we are just a little ahead of everyone else, however; we are friendly and we welcome The California Angels to Fenway Park tonight.

Somehow I think they will remember Boston, not as the Hub, but as a little taste of Hell as the Red Sox rip them apart!!

Monday, Monday

Tonight it's all about the New England Patriots playing the Cincinnati Bengals if you are a football fan that is.

Yesterday was all about Mom, She turned 78, but she looks 29.....Of course this kind of schmooze has kept me her favorite. Being the youngest of 4, I have three OLDER sisters, it's obvious to me that mom and dad tried once, twice, 3 times and then when most might have given up...gave it one more try and TA DA!! Perfection...I was born.

Thanks guys!!

On to other topics, The Boston Red Sox managed to finish the season with the Best record in Baseball...A local radio show asked the question...If you had to pick One, A) The Red Sox Win The World Series or B) The Patriots win the Super Bowl what would you pick??

I'd pick B, The Pats and hope for a Great year from The Celtics and their new lineup...Maybe the Sox will win anyway, really it's only because I'm forced to pick ONE...I personally think us New Englanders have the Best sports has to offer.....Bring it ON!

I'm also hoping the Jets lose ALL their remaining games...they are CRAP...Their fans too!!

They can't even decide if they want to be from New York or New Jersey, They play on another teams field...They should move to Nevada or North Dakota..they haven't got a football team.

Something About Mary

Mary and I, 7 Years ago on a cruise from Boston to Bermuda

She had a kind soul and would have given you the shirt off her back. She was funny and had a
feisty side to her that could not be put down. She called me on that fateful morning of 9/11 and asked me to come home and be with her, she was so saddened by the horror that she witnessed that morning on the T.V. She would have been 41 this December.

Same trip, arriving in Bermuda.

Sadly, Mary had a problem with drinking which grew steadily worse, compounding her problems she was in a serious accident and had to have emergency brain surgery...After her surgery, for a short while, she returned to being the beautiful butterfly I'd first fell in love with.

They had shaved half of her hair off when they performed her brain surgery, I shaved the rest off and told her she was as cute as a button with short hair. She was, but she never believed it. She started drinking again, wouldn't eat and became a hermit. I couldn't get her out in public without a fight and she called cabs to have them deliver liquor to the apartment when I was at work.

I couldn't get her to change, Her family tried and could not help her. On September 29th. 2004 I got a call at work that she had died. She had a seizure in our living room. A friend was there with her and for that I was grateful. She wasn't alone. I don't miss Mary the Hermit but I do miss Mary the Butterfly.

My friend Allen Estes called to give me his condolences a few days later. I wasn't home and our message machine came on. Mary had recorded the message. Allen was taken aback, but what happened was that it helped him to write a song. Allen is a singer and song writer.

You can listen to his song here: Mary's Phone Machine

Mary would be happy that a song about her was on a benefit album for the victims of the Katrina hurricane. She wouldn't agree with the lyrics but then she was in denial

The CD: After The Storm Volume #1

Whenever I see a butterfly I think of her.

Off to Las Vegas

We had "Johnny Mantis" on our porch the other night and we took a few pic's.

I don't know if I'll see any shows while in Vegas, but I've been told there is a bench where if you sit awhile you will see a real cross section of humanity. I hope that I'll be able to get some nice pictures and put them up for everyone to see.

If I hit the big bucks I may need some guest writers to keep the blog alive..I'll make it worth your while!!

The Arts, or in Boston they say The Ahhts

It was the 2007 Ahhts Festival in Christopher Columbus Pahhhk this past weekend. I saw many of the Artists' wares and met a few along the way. Unfortunately I didn't bring a camera so I spared no expense and bought a $10 digital camera from a local convenience store. For 10 dollars you get really bad pictures but I'll share some anyway....

This was Lorie Reilly's finely crafted Mosaic Art...my camera has given it a rather impressionistic look; however the piece on the left, "Oceans At Night" really looks like looks like this...

Fusion Ethos Fashions : Recycles everyday items and transforms them into something wearable!

I want to bring this girl to Vegas for good luck,

and of course she has to wear the earrings !!

Those pictures are from her site, mine sucked!!

Todd Cahill presented Steam Machine Sculpture, an art form I never considered but found really cool...He was constantly tweaking his models to get optimum performance..

My Pics:

His website: Better Pics

Overall I found it a fun day to get out and see things..on my way home I stopped at Suffolk Downs and bet on a couple of Horse Races...Let's just say I hope to have better luck in Vegas next week...

I got more from the Ahhhtts Festival but I'm saving it for Latahhh!

Translation:

I have more from The Arts Festival but I'm saving it for Later!!
